Challenges in the Valorization of the Funerary Heritage. Experiences in the Municipal Cemetery of Murcia (Spain)

The cemetery is a cultural landscape that represents themes of great relevance to interpret the structure society, roles, and hierarchies, as reflection its social life. gathers whole symbolic universe where local histories are represented, beyond history art architectural aspect. As heritage element, shows us socio-cultural changes territory: religious questioning, linked family, individualization contemporary society or broader questions about socio-economic structure. This article presents experience conducted during last 6 years in Cemetery “Nuestro Padre Jesús” Murcia (Spain), through collaboration among Sociedad Murciana de Antropolgía (SOMA), University Municipality Murcia, developing project “Funerary Cultures”, whose main objective promote heritage, historical values funerary culture. Specifically, result this teaching innovation experience, six thematic guides visit presented an patrimonialization elements consequent selection consensus exercise determine what was considered context cemetery.
